The Sustainability Challenge: attend2IT’s Journey to Net Zero

attend2IT is committed to reaching net zero by 2030, but as an SME in event technology, the path is not straightforward. Delivering services to greenfield sites presents sustainability challenges, as these locations lack permanent infrastructure. The company’s Wi-Fi, ticketing, CCTV, and live streaming solutions require a constant power supply, and while diesel generators have been the industry norm, attend2IT is adopting greener alternatives such as hybrid generators, battery storage, and more efficient server technology. The company collaborates with event organisers to integrate sustainable power solutions where possible.

Reducing its footprint from logistics is another major hurdle. Reliable transport is essential for UK and European-wide events, ensuring equipment arrives on time and in perfect working order. While attend2IT optimises vehicle loads and routes to improve efficiency, fully decarbonising transport remains difficult due to limited electric vehicle infrastructure and the need for specialist vehicles.

Minimising waste is equally important. Networking at events requires extensive cabling, and while materials like Cat5e are necessary for stable connectivity, attend2IT focuses on reusing and recycling as much as possible while exploring alternatives like fibre optics and wireless solutions. Its rental business model also helps reduce waste, as equipment is refurbished and redeployed across multiple events.

attend2IT’s journey to net zero is ongoing, and challenges remain. Improved reporting has shown an increase in its carbon footprint, highlighting the complexities of meaningful progress. While achieving full net zero by 2030 may be difficult, the company remains committed to continual improvement.
