BST Hyde Park sustainability with Peppermint

Established in 2003, Peppermint has been the market-leader in greenfield bar operations by crafting innovative experiences based on three core pillars:–
Innovation, People, Sustainability.

A core event in the Peppermint portfolio is the esteemed American Express presents British Summer Time Hyde Park. Peppermint has worked in partnership with AEG since 2013 delivering bars from mass serve front-of-house operations, to backstage premium experiences.

Spanning three weekends of events, it attracts crowds up to 65,000 per day featuring world-class artists such as Stevie Wonder, Adele, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones and many more.

Peppermint enjoys working with AEG’s partners such as American Express and British Airways and helps to operate popular activations – such as the House of Peroni. Summer 2024 Peppermint successfully operated 32 bars, with over 400 metres of serving space, managed over 1000 members of staff, every day of the event.

The unique challenge is the wide variety of acts and audience demographic, which translates into different drink choices and spending patterns. Working closely with the team at AEG, Peppermint relies on big data sets to refine and improve customer experience and increase service speed. The latest drinks trends are fed into ranging decisions and Peppermint works very closely with AEG on the delivery of their sustainability strategy.

In 2024, Peppermint implemented a new waste reduction initiative by using 100% compostable serve ware, a limited reusable cup system and a waste-baler to reduce recycling onsite, equating to leaner cycling streams and fewer truck movements.

By taking these dedicated steps to reduce carbon emissions, American Express presents BST Hyde Park 2024 became AEG Europe’s most carbon-friendly festival series to date. Sam Booth, AEG’s Director of Sustainability, says:
“This year’s BST, Hyde Park embedded a whole new range of sustainability initiatives which we’re really proud of. Every menu displayed environmental labels to help educate our audience on the impact of their food decisions and also brought in a waste baler to help reduce trucking and maintain clean waste streams. All of this work would be far more difficult without the ongoing support and help of our event delivery partners, and Peppermint are absolutely crucial to this. No ask is too big for them, and we’re very lucky to have them as a partner on this journey.”

As a core pillar of Peppermint’s ethos, Sustainability is implemented across all aspects of their day-to-day business and partnering with like-minded partners. From 2019 – 2022, they have managed to reduce their CO2 emissions by 85%, recognising there is much more to be done in order to achieve their desired Net Zero status.
